Amrut Distilleries is India's first and most celebrated single malt whisky producer, founded in 1948 by J.N. Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale in Bangalore, Karnataka. Long celebrated as a leading producer of premium IMFL spirits, Amrut took the world by completely stunning surprise when it launched India's first single malt whisky internationally in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2004 — receiving a rapturous reception from the global whisky community. Amrut single malts are crafted from 100% Indian two-row barley grown in the foothills of the Himalayas in Punjab and Rajasthan, milled and mashed in Bangalore, and matured at 920 metres above sea level in American ex-bourbon and ex-sherry oak casks. The unique sub-tropical Bangalore climate — with temperatures averaging 25–30°C year-round — dramatically accelerates maturation, producing whiskies with immense complexity, depth, and an angel's share of up to 12% per year. The flagship Amrut Fusion single malt, launched in 2009, famously scored 97 points and was ranked 3rd best whisky in the world by Whisky Bible author Jim Murray in 2010 — a watershed moment for Indian whisky globally.
