Godawan

Godawan is Diageo India's pioneering artisanal single malt whisky, proudly distilled and matured at United Spirits Limited's state-of-the-art craft facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. Named in honor of the 'Godawan' (the Great Indian Bustard) — Rajasthan's majestic yet critically endangered state bird, of which fewer than 150 remain in the wild — the brand dedicates a portion of its proceeds directly to the bird's grassland habitat conservation. Crafted using locally sourced six-row barley, Godawan is matured under the desert sun of Alwar, where temperature extremes (reaching 45°C in summer and falling to 5°C in winter) drive an exceptionally high annual 'angel's share' evaporation rate of 10-12%, accelerating cask-wood interactions to create immense flavor depth in a fraction of the time. Truly pioneering local terroir, Godawan is finished in bespoke American oak casks cured with unique Indian botanicals — fenugreek and cumin for Series 01, and Himalayan Jatamansi (spikenard) for Series 02 — delivering a premium, award-winning flavor profile that has quickly positioned India at the forefront of global single malt innovation.
