The brand was created by William Sanderson—a visionary distiller and blender from Leith, Scotland—who began blending fine spirits at the young age of thirteen. The legendary name of the brand stems from a famous tasting event: in 1882, Sanderson prepared 100 distinct blended casks (vats) of Scotch whisky and assembled an esteemed panel of master blenders, friends, and experts to taste them.
