The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a benchmark Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, celebrated as a pioneer of cask-finishing techniques. Meticulously crafted by legendary Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, the spirit is matured sequentially in two distinct wood types. It spends at least 12 years in traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels, which impart smooth vanilla, sweet honey, and light oak character. It is then transferred ('finished') into Spanish Oloroso sherry oak casks for an additional 9 months, which adds layers of rich dried fruits, warm winter spices, and deep wood complexity. On the nose, it offers sweet sherry, rich wildflower honey, and ripe orchard fruits. The palate is treated to a remarkably smooth and velvety mouthfeel featuring spiced vanilla, sweet cinnamon, toasted nuts, and nutmeg, followed by a warm, long, and deeply satisfying finish.
